THIS TIME

You’ve walked in and out of my life so often.
I can’t tell if you’re coming or going.
Won’t you make up your mind.
You’re not a child.
You can’t keep burning both ends of this candle.
It’s just too much for this poor heart to handle.
But as you’re ready to leave, you turn and smile.

And you say this time.
This time maybe things will work out right.
Tomorrow I’ll be waiting by your door.
This time. This time maybe things will be O.K.
We won’t have to say goodbye no more.

Just when I think that you’re here to stay now.
That’s when you say that you’re on your way now.
And I turn ‘round to look to find you’ve gone.
Maybe we were just wrong from the start.
We can’t stay together, yet we can’t stay apart.
Are we destined that this, go on and on?
